Jack Dawson, MD
A native Houstonian and overall “really nice guy,” Jack is committed to serving his community. As the Chief of Orthopedics at Ben Taub hospital, he has worked to increase access to healthcare and improve patient outcomes for a population of patients who have very few resources. Jack is available to see patients at Ben Taub, Texas Children’s, Baylor St. Luke’s, and The Methodist Hospital. He has a huge breadth of experience, having treated over 8000 fractures in the past 10 years of practice.
Jack attended Rice University for his undergraduate degree and then attended Baylor College of Medicine for his medical degree. He stayed at Baylor for his residency in Orthopedic Surgery and subsequently completed fellowships in orthopedic trauma at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and the Leeds General Infirmary in Leeds, England.
As the Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor, Jack is an integral part of training the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. He has also participated in and led multiple educational events for college and high school students.
Jack is also involved in service abroad: he travels to Guatemala on an annual basis to perform complex fracture surgeries, and he is a regular contributor to the educational curriculum of a Guatemalan residency program.

Omar Atassi, MD
Dr. Omar H. Atassi is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in trauma and fractures to the bones, joints, and soft tissues. Dr. Atassi received his medical degree and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology and Post-traumatic Reconstruction at the world-renowned Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida. He was an AOTraveling Fellow with the AOFoundation in Barcelona, Spain. During fellowship, he worked under the tutelage of Roy Sanders, MD, and other leaders in orthopedic trauma. His research has focused on adult and pediatric fractures as well as complex injuries of the joint. His research has been presented at national conferences and he has written multiple book chapters in adult and pediatric fractures.
As a fracture specialist, Dr. Atassi cares for patients at several locations in the Texas Medical Center including Baylor St. Luke's and Ben Taub General Hospital. He overseas an array of orthopedic trauma cases - from managing the complex polytrauma patient admitted to Ben Taub General Hospital, Harris county's level one trauma center, to ambulatory fractures and chronic injuries at Baylor St. Luke's.
Dr. Atassi believes that unlike most of medicine where the goal is adding years to a patient's life, in orthopedics, the goal is to add LIFE to patients' years. He carries this mantra with him every day as he cares for his patients, striving to get them back to their pre-injury level of function.

Chris Perkins, MD
Chris was born and raised in the Houston area and was the first of his extended family to attend college. He completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 2002. Chris then attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and stayed to complete a residency in Orthopedic Surgery as well in 2011. He completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at the University of Miami in 2012 and spent two and a half years as a faculty member at the University of Florida at Jacksonville. Being a native Houstonian and a product of Baylor, Chris returned in 2015 to join the faculty Baylor College of Medicine fulfilling a dream to practice and educate at his alma mater.
As a part of the fracture specialists at Baylor, Chris provides care for the underserved patients at Ben Taub Hospital and also patients at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, The Methodist Hospital, and Texas Children's Hospital. The shared practice philosophy of our group is to provide excellent fracture care to all of our patients regardless of their socioeconomic status. In addition to acute fracture care, Chris is considered a national expert in the Ilizarov methods of limb reconstruction and deformity correction using ringed external fixators and the Taylor Spatial Frame. He also specializes in fractures that did not heal (nonunions) and bones that have chronic infection (osteomyelitis).
Chris is also committed to the education of residents and medical students at Baylor College of Medicine. He serves as the director of all medical student rotations in orthopedic surgery and formally mentors every medical student at Baylor aspiring to be an orthopedic surgeon. He is also very involved in the resident selection process and previously served as the assistant program director at the University of Florida at Jacksonville. He is committed to paying forward the education he received to future generations of orthopedic surgeons.
